Installation Night 2007

On June 30th, ROCKS members with 120 guests assembled at Imperial Boathouse in Choengmon, to celebrate the Installation of the incoming President, Adèle Smith.  The weather was a little unsettled, but Imperial Boathouse decided to go ahead, and set up in their beautiful garden area behind reception.  Guests arrived, to be greeted by Adèle, and the ladies were offered a corsage.  Among the guests welcomed were members of ROCKS sister club from Makati South (Manila) in the Philippines, and sponsor club, Patong Beach in Phuket.
They then passed through a triumphal arch to an upstairs sala where they were offered a welcome cocktail, and a chance to preview the fabulous raffle prizes that ROCKS had been donated.
These prizes ranged from an impressive Buddha Head mounted on a plinth, to romantic dinners for 2 in top class resorts and restaurants, to a one year subscription for the soon to be completed Royal Golf and Country Club in Lamai.  With 21 prizes in all, guests knew that their chances of winning were more than good, and they happily bought many tickets.
An excellent meal followed the reception, courtesy of Imperial Boathouse, with guests’ only problem was in choosing between many dishes from Thai and International cuisines.  Diners were serenaded by a saxophone and guitar, which along with beer, wine and soft drinks flowing freely, added to the festive atmosphere.  After the meal, the ceremony of Installation was performed by Khun Sriya Siriweg representing the Governor of Rotary District 3330. She herself was the first lady District Governor of 3330, which was in keeping with the Installation of Adèle, the first lady President of ROCKS. A slide show presentation demonstrated to the audience all that ROCKS had achieved since 1st July 2006, an impressive list indeed.

Khun Sriya had one more duty to perform.  ROCKS honoured Rutger (Mike) Langaskens, who had done so much for Wat Jaeng entirely without prompting from anything but his own great heart, with a Paul Harris Award. This award was instituted by the Founder of Rotary International, so that members who epitomize what Rotary is all about, may be honoured, as ROCKS chose to honour Mike.
Following the ceremonials, the atmosphere changed to one of partying as guests took to the dance floor, accompanied by the incomparable Ovada Show band.
There was a serious side to the event, apart from the ceremonial aspect.  With the aid of generous sponsors, ROCKS aimed to raise money for its prime cause, Wat Jaeng School.  The painting of the main block is now complete, and the school is in excellent spirit, with pride of ownership of such sparkling buildings clearly showing.
